Laparoscopic Surgery
What is laparoscopic surgery?
Minimally invasive surgery performed through small incisions with long instruments.
What are the benefits of laparoscopic surgery?
Performing surgery through small incisions results in less pain, faster recovery, and decreased risk of wound complications. Faster recovery means getting back to daily activities quicker.
How is laparoscopic surgery different from traditional surgery?
Traditional surgery is often referred to as "open" surgery which involves a larger incision. A larger incision means more pain and longer recovery time. However, there are instances where a larger incision may still be necessary for a particular procedure or patient circumstance. However, a laparoscopic approach has been proven to be beneficial in an increasing variety of surgeries and should be considered when appropriate.
